Activated Carbon

Activated Carbon is essential for Carbon-in-Pulp (CIP) and Carbon-in-Leach (CIL) gold recovery processes. The InterChem INTERCARB® quality granular coconut shell activated carbons are produced to stringent specifications by our leading manufacturers, utilising the steam activation process. Our manufacturing partners produce activated carbons from a single origin (region) source, which guarantees consistency of quality, activity, and availability, whilst always maintaining the required specifications. These INTERCARB® activated carbons are ideally suited to CIL (carbon-in-leach), CIP (Carbon-in-pulp) and CIC (carbon-in-column) processes. The INTERCARB® activated carbons have inherent hardness and low attrition rates and the manufacturing process delivers very low platelet levels and minimal soft particles. The INTERCARB® range have outstanding adsorption kinetics with superior gold adsorption rates. Different grades are available to suit specific customer requirements and the range of carbons have been tailored and optimised for use in CIP and CIL circuits, with advantages including significantly lower attrition rates and therefore lower associated gold losses. InterChem can provide five (5) specific products in the INTERCARB® range and these include the INTERCARB® CQ650, INTERCARB® CQ650D, INTERCARB® EC600, INTERCARB® EC550 and INTERCARB® EC500 carbons. All INTERCARB® products have been independently tested and found to be “as good, if not better” than the popular Australian gold industry carbons. The standard size available in the INTERCARB® product range is a 6x12 mesh product, though other sizes are available on request. InterChem along with our manufacturing partners offers technical support and advice for CIP and CIL recovery circuits to assist with maximizing the efficiency and performance of the INTERCARB® activated carbons in the circuit. We can also provide analysis of activated carbon samples by independent laboratories or our manufacturing partner laboratories with recommendations on carbon handling and process parameters to help optimise plant operation and performance. InterChem also supplies large volumes of commodity chemicals for cyanide destruction during gold extraction, including sodium metabisulfite (SMBS) and copper sulphate (CuSO4).
